Private-equity-backed groups often keep each practice’s local name, so patients can’t tell from the sign on the door who backs their dentist, vet or doctor. PE or Not? collects the public evidence, names the owner or backers, and links the sources.
What we cover
- 524 owner groups across dental, veterinary, dermatology, eye care and gastroenterology, with 55,489 known locations.
- Every dental practice we could find in Dallas-Fort Worth and the Bay Area, and every optometry and ophthalmology practice in Dallas-Fort Worth, plus the stores of the optical chains we track there: 1,906 practice pages for those tied to a group, and 73 city pages.

Our principles
- Facts with sources. A label describes ownership, not quality of care.
- “PE-backed” or “affiliated” in dentistry, never “owned by” a PE firm, because a dentist remains the legal owner.
- “No known PE ties”, not “independent”, unless the practice has certified it.
- Labels are never for sale. Practices can certify their ownership through Verified Not PE.

Who publishes it
PE or Not? is published by TechCrowds, LLC. It has no investors and takes no money from dental, eye care, veterinary or medical groups, PE firms or lenders, except practices paying for a Verified Not PE listing, which never changes a label.
