Privacy policy

PE or Not? (peornot.org, the PE or Not? browser extension, and our API and MCP server) is published by TechCrowds, LLC (a California limited liability company), PO Box 104, Redwood City, CA 94064. You can reach us at info@peornot.org. This page says what we collect and why. In short: very little, and nothing that identifies you unless you email us or apply for a listing.
The website
- No ads, no trackers, no analytics, no cookies and no third-party scripts. Every script on the site is our own and is served from peornot.org.
- Search runs in your browser: the site downloads its search index and matches what you type on your device. Your searches aren’t sent to us.
- The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes your IP address and the pages you request in order to deliver them, and keeps standard request logs. On our plan we can see those logs for one day, and we don’t copy them anywhere else.
The browser extension
- What it reads. On Google Maps and Yelp it reads the business listings on the page (name, address, phone, website) to match them to our data. On any other website it reads the page only when you click the extension’s icon on that tab: the business name, address and phone shown on the page, and its web address. This happens on your device.
- What it requests from us. To check a business, the extension downloads data files from peornot.org: the file for the area (the first three digits of the ZIP code), and, for a website, the file for the first letter of its domain. Those requests don’t include the business you’re looking at, your browsing history or any identifier. Like any web request, they reach our host (Vercel) with your IP address.
- What it stores. Downloaded data files are cached in your browser so the next lookup is faster. Nothing is stored about the places you look at.
- The extension has no account, no analytics and no ads, and we don’t sell or share anything it handles. We use what it reads only to show you ownership information.
Requests to check a website
If you ask us to check a website from the extension, it sends us the website’s address, the business name, address and phone shown on the page, our current result for it, and, if you give it, your email address. The request is emailed to us through Resend. We use it to research the site, and your email only to tell you once it has been checked; we delete the email address after that and don’t add it to any list.
The API and MCP server
When an app or AI assistant asks our API or MCP server about a business, it sends the name, address, phone or website it is asking about. We use that only to answer the request. Our host keeps standard request logs, which can include the query and the caller’s IP address, for a limited time. Don’t send personal information about patients or yourself in a query.
Verified Not PE applications and payments
- If you apply, we collect what you enter: the practice’s name, office addresses, NPI numbers and website; who owns it and their shares; any management or support company, investors or pending sale; your answers to the ownership statements; and your name, role and email address.
- The application is emailed to verify@peornot.org through Resend, our email delivery provider. We use it only to verify ownership and run your listing. We publish the badge, not your answers, and we don’t sell them.
- Payment, when you activate a listing, is handled by Stripe. Stripe collects your card details under its privacy policy; we never see or store your full card number. We receive the payment’s status, amount, your name, email and billing country and postal code, and the last four digits of the card, which we use to run and renew the listing.
Email to us
Email sent to info@peornot.org or corrections@peornot.org is delivered through Cloudflare Email Routing and read by TechCrowds, LLC. We use it to answer you and to check and make corrections, and we may keep it as a record of why a page changed. We don’t publish who reported a correction.
How long we keep it
- Verified Not PE applications and payment records: while the listing is active and for 7 years after, for our records and taxes.
- Correction reports and other email: 3 years.
- Host request logs: one day in our account (see above).
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing info@peornot.org. We’ll answer within 30 days. We may keep what the law requires us to (payment records, for example). PE or Not? isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
Practices and owners named on PE or Not?
Our pages are about businesses and the companies that own or back them. We don’t publish personal information about individual clinicians beyond what appears in public business records, such as a practice’s legal name. To correct anything about you, use Report a correction.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version.
